Accompanied by others, Mace choose to confront Palpatine, to place him under arrest. Showdown ensued. Mace was vanquished by the powerful sith lord. This also entailed his demise. Mace was an immensely formidable jedi. He had a position in the Jedi council. Mace wielded a lightsaber whose laser was purple.
